The Church recognizes the Bible as the primary source of knowledge about God and Jesus. But since the Bible makes it clear that Jesus is not the Supreme Being and the Supreme Being is not Jesus, upon what basis have you come to believe otherwise?
First of all, the Bible makes it quite clear that Jesus is God, and only those who either ignore the Bible's clear statements or twist certain otherwise out of their context would argue otherwise. Please note just a few of the Scriptures that Muslim has chosen to overlook in his quest to denigrate the person of Jesus. John 1:1 - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Titus 2:13 - "looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus." Hebrews 1:8 - "But of the Son He says, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever." 2 Peter 1:1 - "Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ."
Second, the basis upon which the historic Christian Church has made its stand for the past two millennia regarding the deity of Jesus Christ is the Bible. From his name (which has its origin in the Hebrew name Yeshua, or "Yahweh saves") to his activities of forgiving sin, raising the dead, and granting eternal life, to his sinless life, Jesus was God, very God, and no amount of Muslim distortion of the Scriptures is going to change that fact.
My brother or sister, the belief that the Supreme Being is a Trinity is false and completely inconsistent with the words of Jesus as presented in the Bible. God is one, not three. He is a perfect unity.
Note the switch in argument from Jesus deity to attacking the Trinitarian character of God. The fact is, the Bible is clear that not only is God the Father God, but so is Jesus (as was seen above), and so is the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4; 2 Cor. 3:17). And simply because there are three distinct persons in the Godhead in no way necessitates the God is anything less than one being, because He isn't. What he is, is One being who subsists in three persons; "a perfect unity." Otherwise, one might interject at this point and ask the Muslim, just what is God supposed to be unified with, perfectly, if He is not unified with another person?
If you are interested in the truth about God and your relationship to Him, we invite you to investigate the religion of Islam.
Islam is a cult of both Christianity and Judaism. Much of what Islam propagates is nothing more than rehashed heresies and beliefs that Muhammad accepted when he was alive, whether it be Arianism, Nestorianism, or Gnosticism. Therefore, before one decides to accept the invitation of the Muslim to investigate his distorted theology, a good course in the development of church doctrine, as well as church history would be excellent. For not only would one see just where much of what Islam stands for is derived from, one could also see how the early Christian church handled these very arguments which Islam is repeating today.
As far as a relationship with God is concerned, those attempting it through the legalistic requirements of Islam will never know God, nor see His kingdom one day. In fact, all one does by subscribing to Islamic tenets is place oneself underneath humanistic system of beliefs that amount to nothing more than one's attempt at self-righteousness through personal effort. Jesus said that if one truly wanted to come to God, then it was only through him (Jn. 14:6), and it had nothing to do with legalistic self-effort. All it had to do with was trusting him by faith. And as long as one was willing to do that, the Jesus said that that person would be born from above into God's kingdom.
Therefore, if you are a Muslim, or simply someone who desires to know God, all you have to do to enter a relationship with him is believe in Jesus. For Jesus is wholly different than anyone who has ever lived, including Muhammad. He was not only a prophet, but was God incarnate, who came to die in your place so that you could have a relationship with God. Believing in Jesus is as simple as bowing your head and telling God that you trust Him; that you welcome the presence of God's Spirit to come live within you, and that you look forward to following Jesus as described in God's book, the Bible.
Trusting Jesus alone, by faith, will seem a bit strange at first. So many people have been conditioned by false notions or false religion that relating to God is a matter of what you for Him, instead of realizing that it is God who initiates the relationship, and it is a matter of what He has done for you. Nevertheless, the strangeness of merely believing without all the legalisms, regimented empty prayers, and salvation-oriented works (that you never know if you actually done enough) will eventually fade, as you mature in the realization of just who God is and what a relationship is really all about.
So, investigate Islam if you will, but let it be known that it is not what Muhammad or any Muslim assert that it is. It is a counterfeit that will leave you empty in the present, and wanting at the end of life. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me" (Jn. 14:6), and Luke, the Gospel writer, would record the apostle Peter as saying, "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). That name is Jesus; not Muhammad. So, what is there to investigate?
